"But, I personally told them not to follow the ways of the Samajwadi Party as there is a wave in favour of the BSP," Mayawati said.
Attacking Mulayam, she said he had recently made some remarks in favour of rapists and his "anti-women" comments were routine.
"We all know how much honour he (Mulayam) has given to his first wife. This is an open secret.
"The Election Commission should take cognisance of his statement and initiate strict action against him and ban him from campaigning," Mayawati said.
She alleged the SP leader, apprehending defeat in the Lok Sabha polls, was resorting to hooliganism and pressurizing officers and employees to work in favour of his party.
Mulayam was trying to vitiate the atmosphere in the state, Mayawati said.
