New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has said that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) background of PM Narendra Modi and the BJP makes them do good work.

In an interview to Times Of India, when Mufti was asked about division of Hindu and Muslim population in his state, the CM said, "There are no divisions. The BJP is in power for the first time. It's not looting like the Congress. The RSS background makes them do good work, be at the doorsteps of people."

On BJP-PDP alliance, he said that the BJP is a party of committed people and that the Prime Minister has chosen some wonderful young men who all are devoted instead of being corrupt like the Congress.

"I am more than happy with the alliance. The people here are cooperating, people in Jammu are cooperating. And the PM is totally focused," he said, adding that the Centre extended wholehearted support in core sectors linked to connectivity, healthcare, education and rural development.

He also thanked the Modi for his personal intervention in speeding up work of four-lanning of Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and broadening the scope of railway network in the state.

When asked about PM Modi being targeted for Dadri lynching incident and becoming victim of rising ideological intolerance, the CM said, 'Dadri was terrible. But Modi's agenda is 'Sab ka saath, sabka vikas'. 'Toofan ka aadmi hai', he is not communal at all. I am sure in the days ahead he will marginalize the loose canons in his party; it will take time, it's a process of evolution. My experience is that Modi is not at all authoritarian; he consulted a wide range of people before tying up with me."

He also said that 'there's no alternative to Modi and that he is fully convinced that the latter wants to come out of narrow politics to take forward the development agenda.

Modi is not corrupt, Mufti said, adding that in the long run, he will be successful and the hotheads will be marginalized once there is visible economic growth.

On growing Indo-Pak tension, Mufti said that the two should shun confrontation and engage in a meaningful dialogue.

J&K is the first casualty of tension between the two countries, Sayeed said.

The Chief Minister further said that Modi's upcoming visit to the state will be a turning point in the history of Jammu and Kashmir and the people of the state have great expectations from it.

"People have great expectations from the visit of the Prime Minister who is a visionary and has his eyes fixed on overall development of Jammu and Kashmir. I see this as a turning point in the history of the state," Sayeed said.

"I met Modi a couple of times and realized that he genuinely wants to win the hearts and minds of people of the state," Sayeed added.

Modi is scheduled to address a rally in Srinagar on November 7.
