New Delhi: Congress today demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apologise to the nation on the black money issue in the wake of “shocking admission” by BJP Chief Amit Shah that the promise to deposit Rs 15 lakh in bank account of every family was just an ‘electoral gimmick'.

Coming down heavily on the Prime Minister and the BJP, party spokesman Randeep Surjewala said the “shocking admission”  by the BJP President has “stunned the entire country with a sense of outrage and betrayal.”

“This shameless assertion of BJP President has exposed the rank political opportunism and blatant falsehood perpetuated by Modi and BJP in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls.  “Congress demands that Prime Minister should come forward and  tender an apology  to 125 crore Indians for his ‘electoral gimmickry and betrayal of faith”, he said.

Besides, he demanded that Modi should clarify to the Nation as to how many more electoral gimmicks have the Prime Minister and BJP played upon the people of India during the Lok Sabha polls and subsequent Assembly polls.

Another party spokesman Sanjay Jha struck a similar note.

“Amit Shah says Rs 15 lakh black money refund was an election “ jumla”. Wow! He confesses BJP intentionally lied to the people for power.”

“The power of propaganda that sells falsehoods, conceals reality. He has successfully fooled many. But not for long hopefully”, Jha said in a series of tweets.
