New Delhi: Remembering the sacrifices and valour of the Indian armed forces on the occasion of 43rd Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the nation was "extremely proud" of them.
"On Vijay Diwas, we remember sacrifices and valour of our armed forces who fought courageously in 1971. We are extremely proud of them," he said.
Vijay Diwas commemorates the victory of the Indian armed forces and the Mukti Bahini in the war which culminated in the liberation of Bangladesh.
On Tuesday, Lt. General (Retd.) JFR Jacob also presented a copy of his books "An Odyssey in War and Peace: An Autobiography Lt. Gen. JFR Jacob" and "Surrender at Dacca" to the Prime Minister.
"On this historic day, glad to have met Lt. General (Retd.) JFR Jacob, known for his impeccable service to the army," Modi tweeted, while sharing images from the meeting.
"I thank Lt. General (Retd.) Jacob for presenting me with his books...," the tweet added.
The three Service Chiefs were also present on the occasion.
