Brisbane: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister on his 125th birth anniversary.
"Today we mark the 125th birth anniversary of our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. My tributes to him," Modi said in a tweet.
"We remember Pandit Nehru's efforts during the freedom struggle and his role as the first prime minister of India," added Modi.
PM Modi intends to make Nehru's 125th birthday a global event.
Days before leaving for Australia, he said, “125th birth anniversary of late Jawaharlal Nehru should be celebrated in a manner so that the younger generation can be inspired by India's first Prime Minister.”
Modi is presently in Australia on the second leg of his three-nation tour.
Here he will attend the G20 summit in Brisbane. He will also visit Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.
