New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi today met the Chief Ministers of all Congress-ruled states. The meeting was called to deliberate on the formulation of a political strategy to take on the NDA government.

The meeting began with a one minute silence in honour of the jawans martyred in Manipur.

While addressing the leaders, the Congress president said, "There are systematic attempts being made to dismantle the edifice of welfare state built up over the decades by successive Congress governments."

"This is a new philosophy which abdicates the essential role of the central government," she added.

She also pointed out that seven out of the eleven states under special category were Congress ruled.

"Unprecedented centralisation of power, bypassing of Parliament, threats to civil society and warnings to judiciary taking place under Modi," she said.

"PM is projecting himself as champion of good governance but allowing colleagues to make communal statements," she added.

Congress is in power in nine states: Kerala, Assam, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Manipur; with the first two scheduled to go to polls next year.
