When Rajat Sharma specifically asked whether Narendra Modi will help build the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Singhal tried to sidestep the question by saying: "It depends on the situation prevailing in the country. People wearing the cloak of secularism are looting this country, the country is moving towards bankruptcy. Modi is popular for his development model. We hope he will bring religiosity among the people."
Singhal said, before Modi's rule in Gujarat, there used to be attacks on Hindu rath yatra processions, but during Modi's rule, these have stopped, because he adopted a strong policy against 'jehadi elements'. "Now Hindus and Muslims live in peace in Gujarat".
On the sexual assault charge against Asaram Bapu, Singhal said, the matter was now before the court and the court should decide whether the charge was true or not.
But the VHP leader reminded how in the past Hindu saints like Pragya Sadhvi, Shankaracharya of Kanchi and Kripalu Maharaj were made to face criminal charges.
