New Delhi, Oct 28: The much-talked about larger role for Congress general secretary Rahul Gadhi's youth brigade in the ministerial rejig effected by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday turned out to be a mixed bag, belying the hopes of some who expected to be elevated to cabinet rank and disappointment over non-induction for others.

Jyotiraditya Scindia and Sachin were elevated to ministers of state with independent charge for power and corporate affairs respectively, while Manish Tewari, the articulate party spokesperson, has now been given independent charge of the information and broadcasting ministry as a minister of state.

The ministry was earlier held by a cabinet minister in Ambika Soni.

But the notable youthful MPs who missed the bus this time, though being named by sections of the media to get the call to join the government, were Meenakshi Natarajan from Madhya Pradesh, Manicka Tagore from Tamil Nadu, and Pradip Kumar Majhi from Odisha.

Others, who did not get a call for elevation to the cabinet, included Jitin Prasada, whose portfolio as minister of state was changed from road transport and highways to defence and human resources development.

Milind Deora, who is a minister of state for communications and information technology, found his position unchanged and so did D. Purandeswari, the minister of state for human resources development.

Ahead of the ministerial rejig though, some of those from the youth brigade had thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the reward they thought they get in the new council of ministers.
