Lucknow : Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Wednesday sought the resignation of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over the Vyapam scam.

Addressing a press conference here, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said the series of deaths of witnesses made the government suspect and Chouhan must immediately step down.

She also targeted Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and said that the Samajwadi Party (SP) has let loose a reign of terror and anarchy in the state and the only solution to "end the problems faced by the people is President's rule"

She took pot shots at the BJP and suggested that instead of enacting the "drama" of staging sit-ins, the party should pressurise Governor Ram Naik into dismissing the SP government in the state

Referring to the incident in Barabanki a few days back when a woman was set on fire allegedly by policemen inside a police station, the Dalit leader said that was an example of the 'jungle raj' prevailing in the state.

There is a nexus of politicians, policemen and mafia in the state which is calling the shots even as the hapless people are being made to live a miserable life, the four-time chief minister said.

She also accused the Akhilesh Yadav government of pursuing an anti-Dalit agenda and clarified that when she was in power she did not hound any Yadav as she believed in justice for all.
