Lucknow, May 19: Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati today said, her party would make its stand clear only after the UPA and NDA reveal the names of their candidates for President.

Addressing a press conference here, Mayawati said: “Our party will support that candidate which will help our movement. For now, our party is keeping a watch on both the UPA and NDA. Let them first decide their candidates.”

Asked about her assessment about Pranab Mukherjee, Mayawati said, his candidature was still unclear. On former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma, backed by BJD and AIADMK, the BSP supremo said, I have only read about his name in the newspapers. ‘We will decide as the situation evolves', she added.

Asked whether the UPA-2 government at the Centre will run its full term, Mayawati said, our party has extended support to the UPA government to keep the communal forces at bay.

“Whether the government completes its term or not, is a question that should be addressed to the UPA allies”.

On the present Akhilesh Yadav government in UP, Mayawati said, “I don't think any government is actually working right now in Lucknow, so it is difficult to say who is backing the SP government.

I can't say about their family (Mulayam's), because the family members are working as they like.”

In her initial statement at the press conference, Mayawati  said, her party had assumed that the people of UP would be disappointed after one year of SP rule, but the disappointment among the voters has set in within two months.

“This government has broken historic records of last 60 years, in the matter of mass transfers of officials. Law and order situation has deteriorated badly. Incidents of kidnapping, extortions and molestation are on the rise.”

Mayawati said: “I would like to blame the BJP and Congress for their wrong stands during the elections which led to the SP coming to power.

Otherwise there was no force on earth which could have prevented our party from retaining power.”

The BSP leader said, the SP government had promised to give free latops, unemployment allowance and free power to farmers and weavers, but nothing has been implemented.

“This government is only busy in meetings and making announcements.”
