Lucknow: Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has compared herself with the World War II British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
Mayawati said that Churchill had emerged victorious in World War II but lost the next election in 1945. Likewise, she too won the 2007 assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh and lost in 2012 polls.
“British PM Winston Churchill was successful in World War II in 1945, but lost the elections held immediately after. A loss in elections hardly matters, I am proud of what I have achieved in the last regime and would continue to pursue the goal of socio-economic and political liberation of the Bahujan Samaj,” the Dalit leader said.
“A loss in one election should not weaken the Dalit movement,” the Dalit leader added.
She has also made an appeal to the ‘sarvasamaj' (complete society) to enable her to form government at the Centre so that she can accomplish the mission of ‘social transformation and economic liberation'.
The BSP supremo has written this in a new volume of her autobiography -- ‘A Travelogue of My Struggle-Ridden Life and BSP Movement'. The book was released on the occasion of her birthday on January 15 this year. This is the 10th volume of her autobiography.
In the 640-page autobiography, Mayawati further said that people can find an ‘iconic' Prime Minister in her.
She also claimed that by raising memorials and parks in the name of Dalit icons during her five year stint from 2007 to 2012, her government left an indelible mark in the annals of Dalit movement and political history of India's most populous state.
