Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today made it clear that the controversial right-wing Hindu outfit Sri Ram Sene had been banned from setting up a branch in Goa after the police gave an adverse report about its activities.

“We have banned the entry of Sri Ram Sene in Goa. I had asked police to prepare a detailed report following Sene's announcement to start a branch in the state,” Parrikar said, speaking in the legislative assembly.

The police report was submitted to both the district collectors in the state, who then banned Sene from starting a branch, he said, responding to questions during the discussion of demand for budgetary grants of Home ministry.

“I should be congratulated for my decision,” Parrikar added.

Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik had recently expressed his intention to set up a base in Goa to curb ‘the pub culture'.

Muthalik hit the headlines in 2009 after members of his organisation attacked boys and girls at a pub in Mangalore.
