Lucknow: Newly appointed Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikat today filed his nomination papers for Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh.
Accompanied by Union Ministers Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Kalraj Mishra, BJP MP from Domariyaganj Jagdambika Pal and scores of BJP workers, Parrikar arrived at the Collectorate office in the state capital at 12 noon.
“I feel proud after filing nomination for Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh, feeling lucky,” Parrikar told reporters her.
Before taking over the new responsibility in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Cabinet, Parrikar was the Chief Minister of Goa. He resigned from the top post in the state on Saturday.
Parrikar was on Sunday inducted into the Council of Ministers. He has been given the Defence portfolio in Narendra Modi's Cabinet.
From a RSS pracharak to a Union Minister,technocrat-turned politician Parrikar, a three-time Goa Chief Minister, is known for his administrative acumen and clean image.
The term of office of 11 members of the Rajya Sabha from the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand is expiring on November 25. The biennial elections for the same will be held on November 20.
