Mumbai, Sep 2: Taking a dig at Manmohan Singh over his statement that he preferred to remain silent on the coal allocation controversy, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj today said he was the first Prime Minister who was “proud of his silence”.
“He is the first Prime Minister who is proud of his silence,” said the senior BJP leader.
Referring to Singh's statement, where he cited a Urdu couplet “Hazaron jawabon se achchi hai khamoshi meri..” (my silence is better than thousands of questions), Swaraj came up with her own: “Aap Bole to kaam bane, Khamoshi galat-faimiya badhati hai” (it is desirable that you speak, silence breeds misunderstandings).
“This is not about keeping the honour of your silence, but keeping your (own) honour,” she further said.
The BJP leader addressed a public meeting at K C College here. “I am addressing this meeting to let all of you know why we are disrupting the proceedings of Parliament (over coal allocation issue),” she said.
