Narpatganj (Bihar), Oct 16: In a veiled attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said there are people who project a secular image but hitch up with divisive forces.

"There are people who seek to project themselves as secular, but are taking support from those bent upon dividing the country for power," Singh told an election meeting here in Araria district.

"Congress has secular ideology and works for the uplift of every section of society," he said.

Singh said the UPA government under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi had done a lot for the benefit of the poor and weaker sections of society.

"We have guaranteed jobs for at least 100 days for every rural family under the MNREGA, which to some extent curbed migration of labourers from Bihar to other states," the Prime Minister said.

He also said there was a need for weeding out corruption and all possible steps should be taken in this direction.

The Prime Minister said the Centre was striving for making  available better health services for the people in villages under the Rashtriya Gramin Swasthya Mission in Bihar and had also given relief to crores of farmers by waiving their loans.

He said the Congress wanted a green revolution. "There are vast possibilities in the field of agriculture in  Bihar for which the Centre has taken the initiative," he said.

The Centre, he said, had launched the National Agriculture Development scheme and separate agriculture development schemes were earmarked for each district.

"The Government of Bihar is not properly discharging its responsibilities for iplementing Central schemes," he said. PTI
