Kolkata: Abhishek Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew, has stirred a controversy by warning that those who dared to challenge Trinamool Congress (TMC) will have their eyes gouged out and their hands chopped off.

While addressing a party event in Basirhat town of North 24 Parganas district, TMC's youth wing president Abhishek said, “Mamata Banerjee and the TMC have proved in Delhi, in Parliament and through various protests, that if the interests of the people of Bengal are hurt, we will not leave the matter.”

“As long as Mamata is there, if anyone dares to glare at us, we will gouge their eyes out and throw them on the road, if they raise their hands, we'll cut their arms off,” he warned his party's adversaries.

A Lok Sabha member from Diamond Harbour, Abhishek is seen as the successor of TMC chief Mamata Banerjee.

In the January this year, Abhishek was slapped by a youth at a rally at Chandipur in East Midnapore district, causing an outrage in the party.

Earlier this month, an MLA of TMC had threatened a district magistrate and to burn sub-divisional and the Block Development offices. The video in which Wilson Champramary, MLA from Kalchini in Alipurduar district could be seen threatening the DM has been widely circulated on social media.
