Kolkata: A day after seeking appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek a waiver of the huge debt burden, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today invited opposition leaders to accompany her during her visit to Delhi to meet the PM.
“I have asked for an appointment with the Prime Minister. We want to meet him along with officials and present our position on the huge debt that the state is saddled with,” she said.
“We will tell them that the Centre is deducting all the money for the last three-and-a-half years. We are the only state which is facing such a problem.
I will be happy if opposition leaders accompany us,” Banerjee told the Assembly during her reply to a discussion on the Governor's address to the House.
Banerjee said that the state government had been pursuing for a long time with the central government for waiver of the huge debt burden.
Banerjee had yesterday sought an appointment with Narendra Modi, urging him to consider the waiver demand.
