New Delhi:  Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ajay Maken on Friday urged Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to go in for by-elections for 13 vacant seats in three municipal corporations of Delhi without any further delay.

Maken has written to Kejriwal in this connection urging him to make necessary arrangements to conduct the by-elections as soon as possible.

"Delhi State Election Commission has already urged the government to immediately conduct by-elections in the respective wards. As per the proposal the by-elections were to be concluded in April. However, no action has been taken by the government," he said at a press conference.

He said the 13 vacant seats include four in North Delhi Municipal Corporation, seven in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation and two in East Delhi Municipal Corporation.

"The Aam Admi Party was shying away from holding bye-elections to the 13 MCD seats fearing defeat, as the AAP government has not been able to fulfil the tall promises made to the people before the Delhi assembly elections and they may not be able to repeat the assembly election results," he said.

Maken added that the Congress will hold a week long protest in the 13 wards seeking immediate by-elections in those wards.
