Maharashtra urges centre to curb anti-islam movie on internet

Mumbai, Sep 20:  The Maharashtra government has urged the central government to curb the controversial anti-Islam movie ‘Innocence of Muslims' on internet sites in order to maintain peace and harmony among Muslims in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said here Thursday.




”I have spoken on this issue with union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and also requested the union government's Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) to block such controversial films or cartoons on the internet,” Chavan told a group of Muslim leaders and intellectuals Thursday afternoon.

Chavan, along with state Home Minister R.R. Patil, Director-General of Police Sanjeev Dayal, Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh, home secretary Amitabh Rajan and others requested Muslim community leaders to exercise restrain over these issues and maintain peace in the state.

Patil has also directed the police to take into confidence Muslim community leaders and clerics all over the state on these issues and explain to them the measures initiated by the government to tackle such offensive content on the internet.

Expressing satisfaction, the Muslim leaders assured that they would issue appeals in all mosques during the Friday afternoon namaz prayers to maintain peace.

Prominent among those who represented the Muslim community were Mehmood Daryabadi, Sarfaraz Arzoo, M.N. Khalid, Hasan Kamal, Zahir Abbas, Mohammed Rizwan and Khan Kasmi.
