Mumbai: Maharashtra Government has convened a meeting of municipal commissioners on November 20 to discuss the scrapping of local body tax (LBT) and octroi.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told a delegation of the Federation of Associations of Maharashtra (FAM) that the government is positive on scrapping LBT and octroi.
He told them that the government will examine all the technicalities and discuss alternatives to ensure that the state's finances are not affected.
Currently, octroi is levied only in the jurisdiction of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). In all other municipal corporations in the state, LBT was introduced in May last year.
However, the erstwhile Democratic Front government had left the decision of opting for LBT or octroi to the respective civic bodies after protests by traders.
