Highest ever voter turnout after 8th phase of LS polling

New Delhi:  India registered a record turnout of voters, surpassing the previous record in 1984, as 66.27 per cent voting was reported in 502 Lok Sabha seats where polling has been conducted this time.Turnout of

Elections were held today in 64 Lok Sabha constituencies in the pen-ultimate phase of polling for the 16th Lok Sabha.

Rout said till now the highest voting percentage was in 1984 when the turnout was 64 per cent.

The last phase of polling for 41 seats will be held in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.

Rout said 30 states out 32 states and Union Territories record higher polling than the last elections.

Jammu and Kashmir also witnessed higher voting with 49.96 per cent polling this time as against 39.68 per cent last time.

Voting in Himachal Pradesh was 66.5 per cent against 53.7 per cent last time. In Uttarakhand, polling was 62 per cent against 53.68 per cent last time.

Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Punjab and Meghalaya saw more turnout of women than men.
