New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today rejected Congress allegations that power tariff in Gujarat was higher than that of Delhi.


Addressing a BJP election rally in Shahdara, Modi said, power up to 30 units was sold at Rs 1.50 a unit in Gujarat, and Rs 3.90 a unit in Delhi, above 200 units power is sold at Rs 4.57 in Gujarat and Rs 5.80 in delhi, commercial power tariff was Rs 4.92 in Gujarat and Rs 8.41 average in Delhi, and industrial power tariff was Rs 6.13 a unit in Gujarat and Rs 7.55 in Delhi.

Modi said, Sheila Dikshit does not have to bear subsidy for supplying cheap power to farmers, whereas Gujarat government bears Rs 3,600 cr power subsidy for farmers.

Modi made fun of Law Minister Kabil Sibal's remark that prices of vegetables are rising because poor people now consume two vegetables with their meals.

"This is an insult to poverty. It reveals their mentality", said Modi, as the vociferous crowd shouted 'Modi, Modi'.

Modi alleged that Congress was misleading the country over poverty and pricerise. "Can you buy 300 gm of onions for Rs 26, the cutoff for poverty level?", he asked rhetorically.

Modi asked the Trans-Yamuna voters to bring Harsh Vardhan, a Trans-Yamuna politician to power as chief minister.
