According to some media reports, PM Modi had instructed officials not to provide him umbrella cover in case it rains during the speech.

PM Modi reached the venue at around 7:20 am. He was then received by a Guard of Honour from the armed forces and then hoisted the national flag. The speech, was expected to last between 45 minutes and one hour and it did last for an hour.

For the first time, the government has made arrangements for 10,000 common men to attend the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort.
