Kumar had announced his candidature much before the party actually released the candidate list. It led to some controversy as well because some people questioned as to how Kumar himself can take a decision on who will contest from Amethi.
The entry of Smriti Irani made the contest even more interesting. Smriti had the advantage of being a household name since her Saas Bahu serial days and the last minute campaign by BJP's prime ministerial candidate did wonders for her electoral prospects.
But in the end, the political pundits who had predicted an easy victory for Rahul despite the hi-decibel campaigns of Smriti Irani and Kumar Vishwas proved right.
