Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Lalu Prasad are set to visit Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency Varanasi ahead of assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh.
Lalu Prasad will visit Varanasi after January 17 to launch an "anti-Modi campaign", Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) state president Ram Chandra Purve said on Monday.
Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav, the younger son of Lalu Prasad, told the media that the RJD chief will also visit West Bengal, which too is heading towards assembly polls.
The aim is to unite parties opposed to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he said.
Janata Dal-United state president Vashsisht Narain Singh said Nitish Kumar would visit Varanasi soon and hold a rally there.
He said the JD-U would contest the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections in a bid to defeat the BJP.
The Grand Alliance of Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar defeated the BJP in assembly elections in Bihar in November. Lalu Prasad had then declared he would go to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to campaign against Modi.
