Azamgarh (UP): If India would have been an intolerant country, then Kiran Rao would not have been Aamir Khan's wife, UP BJP chief Laxmi Kant Bajpai said today, while terming the actor's remarks on ‘intolerance' in the country, as a “national insult”.
“If India would have been an intolerant country then Kiran Rao would not have been his (Aamir's) wife and even SP supremo Mulayam Singh, who favoured the cinestar, does not have any reply to this,” he told reporters.
The BJP leader said that the popular actor was in direct touch with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and could have raised the issue with him.
“If you (Aamir) would have raised the issue on the right platform, right solution would have been worked out,” he said.
The actor had kicked up a political storm with his remarks at a function in Delhi on Monday about his wife expressing fear for their child in the current atmosphere.
He had said, “Kiran and I have lived all our life in India. For the first time, she said, should we move out of India... She fears for her child, she fears about what the atmosphere around us will be.”
Bajpai termed the remarks as a “national insult”. He said that the actor should meet the PM and take back his statement.
The BJP leader, who began a seven-day dharna against poor law and order condition in the state, also hit out at the Akhilesh Yadav government for “propagating complete anarchy”.
