New Delhi: Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi today joined BJP in the presence of party president Amit Shah. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was also present on this occasion.

Welcoming Kiran Bedi into the party, BJP president Amit Shah said that she will contest the upcoming Assembly elections in Delhi.

"I extend my heartiest wishes to Kiran Bedi ji for joining BJP, her presence will strengthen our Delhi unit," said Amit Shah.

"It is prerogative of Parliamentary Board to decide who will be CM candidate, so far Kiran ji has joined us, will contest election," added Shah.

After joining the party, Kiran Bedi said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inspirational  leadeship was the main reason behind her decision to join BJP.

"I have joined BJP because of inspirational leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," said Kiran Bedi.

"His inspirational leadership has led to revival of hope,that's why a person like me who dedicated life to social service is here today," added Bedi.

"The last 40 years of my life have been dedicated to serving the public and the country. I am going to give everything that I learned in the last 40 years to Delhi," said Bedi.

Arun Jaitley also welcomed Kiran Bedi into BJP and said that the party will be strengthened with her induction.

Kiran Bedi was the first woman IPS officer and came to be known as a tough and no-nonsense officer.

After resigning from service, she was working as a social activist.

She hogged the limelight once again after she joined ‘India against Corruption' and participated in Anna Hazare's fast at Ram Lila Ground for bringing 'Jan Lokpal' legislation in parliament.
