Guwahati/Aizawl: An FIR was filed against top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) brass including chief ministerial candidate for Delhi polls, Kiran Bedi, for describing people from the northeast as ‘immigrants' in its ‘Vision Document'.
Besides Bedi, the FIR names party's Delhi unit chief Satish Upadhyay, Union Minister Harsh Vardhan, spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor and the party's state in-charge Prabhat Jha.
The FIR alleged that the accused intentionally used the offensive word in the document.
Complainant Arun Pathak, Guwahati-based businessman, said that the word ‘immigrant' cannot be a spelling mistake and it was printed after being proofed.
“This is a racial offence," Pathak said.
The case was registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC)'s Section 153 A for promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of race, residence, language.
Massive protests have erupted across the Northeast against the BJP ‘Vision Document' for the Delhi elections terming the people of the region as ‘immigrants'.
The ‘Vision Document', which was released on Tuesday, had referred to the people of the NE region as ‘immigrants' and promising them adequate protection in the national capital.
The FIR comes ahead of the civic polls in Assam on Monday.
