“Ours is a 135-year-old party. We are not going to sit idle by saying ‘Modiji aa gaye, hum ghar baith gaye'. This is not going to happen, and the BJP should also not expect the same from us”, he said.
 
Kamal Nath said he had a long meeting recently with Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi.  
 
“I had a long meeting with Rahul ji. He is eager to carry out introspection, because after all, every political party should act as a guardian of people's interests. As an opposition, we want to act as a guardian for those whose voices are not heard.”
 
The senior Congress leader admitted that the party's election campaign did not click. He went to the extent of saying that even if Narendra Modi had not been there, the Congress tally would have declined.
 
“One thing is clear: our campaign did not click. Our message did not reach the people. Particularly, the first time voters wanted change. Even in politics, there is an ‘expiry date' and a shelf life. People wanted change, and there was a big wave for change.
