Jammu: People of Jammu and Kashmir will soon get a strong and stable government as “channels for discussion are open”, BJP today said amid impasse over government formation in the state.
“Channels for discussion are open and the party's central leadership has been authorised to take a final call over thegovernment formation,” BJP state president Jugal Kishore Sharma told reporters in Rajouri today.
However, the MP from Jammu-Poonch constituency refused to name the party with which BJP was in consultation over the formation of the government.
He said, “I assure you that the people of the state will soon get a strong and stable government.”
It has been reported that the PDP leadership was in touch with the BJP and negotiating certain key issues before the two parties can come together to form a government and end the political deadlock that resulted from a hung verdict.
“PDP chief Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's meeting with Governor N N Vohra last week was an important step towards government formation in the state,” a senior PDP leader said on condition of anonymity.
“They had a two-hour meeting and are understood to have discussed government formation and political stalemate in the state. The details of the meeting are not known,” the leader said.
Party president Amit Shah too had said that no government was possible in Jammu and Kashmir without the BJP.
“At one time, we could never cross 12 seats in the Assembly. But this time, we have won 25 seats. Because of the unusual political situation, we could not form the government but the results show that no government can be formed without us,” he had said while addressing party workers in Delhi.
The results of the Assembly polls on December 23 threw a hung assembly with PDP emerging as the single largest party bagging 28 seats in the 87-member house.
BJP came second with 25 seats while National Conference bagged 15 seats followed by Congress with 12 seats and others winning seven seats.
Governor's rule was imposed in the state on January 8, a day after former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah asked NN Vohra to relieve him of the caretaker responsibilities with immediate effect.
No party or combination of parties has staked claim for government formation in the state so far.
