New Delhi: A sessions court in Delhi today rejected bail plea of former law minister Jitender Singh Tomar who was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly faking his degree.

Tomar had approached a sessions court yesterday challenging his arrest in this  case.

The court refused to grant him any interim relief and set the date for next hearing on June 16.

In an application filed before the sessions court, Tomar alleged that police had arrested him in violation of prescribed procedure under the law.

49-year-old Tomar was arrested on Tuesday by Delhi Police on a FIR registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) for allegedly forging documents, including educational degrees, to enrol as an advocate.

He was remanded to four-day police custody till June 13 by a magisterial court.

Police had sought five-day custody of Tomar saying his educational certificates relating to law degree were "fabricated" and he was required to be taken to Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh and Bhagalpur in Bihar to ascertain his educational qualification.

The police yesterday conducted investigation in Faizabad's Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University and Saket College in which Tomar was reportedly unable to convince the cops that his degree was genuine.

Tomar will soon be  taken to Bihar. He is also accused of faking his law degree which he claims he received from Tikamanjhi University of Bhagalpur.
