Ranchi, Sep 21 :  Jharkhand Assembly Speaker C P Singh has received a threatening letter purportedly from Maoists for forwarding a letter by a person demanding a probe into alleged corruption in the Science and Technology department to the Chief Secretary.

Distributing copies of the letter written in red ink and signed by the now defunct MCC, Singh, said his office had received the letter last evening with a warning that he should not write or utter a word against Arun Kumar, the Director of Science and Technology.

"Recently I forwarded the original application given to me by a person named Shivaji Singh of Ranchi who sought a probe into corruption in that department, to Chief Secretary A K Singh," the Speaker told a press conference here.

Commenting on a letter warning him that he would be killed within 48 hours if he dared to speak or write against the director again, he said, "I have my doubts whether it is the handiwork of Maoists or MCC. I feel the matter could be by vested interests as it is in connection with corruption in the Science and Technology department."

"A thorough probe can clear all doubts," he said adding that he had already spoken to the senior superintendent of police.

"People write to me on various issues. I forward them (letters) to the department or authority concerned," the Speaker said, adding he was not afraid of such threats and would continue to support people who raised their voice against corruption. PTI
