Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren today resigned from the post and said his party JMM fought gallantly in the Assembly elections.
“We are as agile as ever because we sincerely and honestly governed (the state),” Soren said after handing his resignation letter to Governor Syed Ahmed.
“Now I have handed over the resignation to the Governor,” he said.
Without elaborating much, Soren said on one side it was the whole country and on the other side a small party JMM, of the poor, which gallantly fought.
On whether he thought a prepoll alliance with Congress would have been useful, Soren said he was not interested in “digging graves”, but “we should learn from our mistakes”.
BJP won 37 seats while its ally AJSU Party secured five seats in the 81-member House. JMM won 19 seats and JVM(P) bagged eight.
