Bangalore: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa was taken into custody on Saturday evening after a special court here pronounced her guilty and awarded four year imprisonment to her in connection with disproportionate assets case.
Moments after the verdict was announced, Jayalalithaa pleaded the court to send her to a hospital following chest pain. The judge told her there are provisions in the jail manual that the prison authorities can refer to for addressing her concerns.
Jayalalithaa's move was aimed to evade arrest but she was later sent to the female wing of Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bangalore.
According to reports, Jayalalithaa was allocated with prisoner number 7402 while other three N Sasikalaa, J Elavarasi and VN Sudhakaran gets 7403, 7404 and 7405 respectively
Special court judge John Michael D'Cunha convicted Jayalalithaa and her three associates -- Sasikalaa, J Elavarasi and VN Sudhakaran -- for offences punishable under Section 120(B) of the IPC (criminal conspiracy), 13(1) of the Prevention Corruption Act (criminal misconduct by public servants) and 109 (abetment).
When she arrived at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, doctors examined her and suggested to shift her to a hospital but jail authorities here refuse to buy their thoughts.
