7. Jawaharlal Nehru used to call Sheikh Abdullah his blood – brother. Sheikh Abdullah met Nehru, the leader of the Indian National Congress in 1937 for the first time.
He was a leader of the 'All India States Peoples' Conference' at that time and his party was agitating against Maharaja Hari Sing, the ruler of the princely state of Kashmir, for a representative people's government.
There developed an intimate friendship between the two. In fact, Nehru's father, Motilal Nehru, a wealthy barrister belonged to the Kashmiri Pandit community.
Hence in a way, apart from the cordial relationship that Abdullah and Nehru had developed, they also shared something in common – Kashmir origin.
