New Delhi:  Congress today sought to puncture Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's defence of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in the 'Modigate' controversy.

"FM confirms Lalit Modi is being investigated by ED and Blue Corner Notice issued to him. Yet justifies Sushma's action. Contradicts himself," party General Secretary Digvijay Singh said in a series of tweets.

Taking a dig at the ruling party, which projected itself as a party with difference, Singh wondered "Where are Morals which BJP keeps talking about ?"

He recalled "In a similar case Madhav Singh Solanki in 1992 had to resign as Minister of Foreign Affairs when he handed over a note to Swiss Authorities".

Singh's reaction came close on the heels of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, breaking his silence, came out in strong defence of Swaraj in 'Modigate' saying she acted "bona fide" and with "good intentions" and the entire government and party were one on the issue.

"All allegations levelled are baseless. Her (Swaraj) statement and that of the party President that whatever she did was with good intentions.

"She acted bona fide. The entire government and the party are one on the issue. There should be no doubt on this," Jaitley said at a joint press conference with Home Minister Rajnath Singh held in the home ministry.
