Srinagar: Three weeks ahead of J&K Assembly elections, chairman of Kashmir Committee and track-II diplomat Ram Jetmalani will today visit Kashmir to hold meetings with various separatist and mainstream parties. He is on a two day visit to the state.
According to sources, Jetmalani a maverick lawyer is likely to interact with the youth here in a bid to know the exact situation on ground. His visit to Kashmir is viewed with importance as he will be holding meetings with various separatists group.
Jethmalani played a crucial role during NDA's first term as he headed the Kashmir Committee. He acted as a catalyst for debates between then Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and Hurriyat (M) leaders led by Moulana Abbas Ansari.
Jethmalani was in Srinagar in August this year to attend a one-day conference organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Peace Foundation. The Conference was held at Sheri Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC).
For the BJP, Jammu and Kashmir is an untested terrain, hence this election is of utmost importance for the party. On the other hand, this flood-hit state is known to be politically turbulent with Separatist groups active virtually round the clock. Hence, Ram Jethmalani's visit will be observed carefully by all the political outfits.
Assembly polls in J-K will be held in five phases between Nov. 25 and Dec. 20 and counting of votes will take place on December 23.
