At the young age of 22, Lalu tasted politics by becoming the General Secretary of Patna University Students Union in 1970. He became the pioneer of the student movement in Bihar.
With former Bihar Chief Minister, Satyendra Narayan Sinha's support, Lalu made it to 6th Lok Sabha representing Janata Party.
