Srinagar: Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said India and Pakistan to exercise restraint along the borders as the violence has caused much damage to Jammu and Kashmir and its people.  Expressing concerns over escalation of tension along the Indo-Pak border, Sayeed said “the violence has already caused much damage to the state and its people”.

In a statement, the former Chief Minister said the plight of the civilian population uprooted on either side has caused a humanitarian crisis and the situation needs to be contained before it results in more damage and destruction.  “The sustenance of ceasefire along the border from 2003 had brought back peace into the lives of border residents from Kathua to Kargil, and had a positive impact on the relations between the two countries and atmosphere of hope was generated within the state as well,” he said.

The PDP patron said the diplomatic and other contact channels between the two countries needs to be activated to ensure that the situation does not escalate and returns to normal “sooner than later”.
