India will achieve complete economic freedom in 5-7 years: Rajnath Singh

Raipur: The results of economic policies adopted by Narendra Modi government will be reflected on the ground in three years and the country will get “complete economic freedom” in 5-7 years, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said today.

Addressing a function after inaugurating the headquarters of the Chhattisgarh Police, Singh said India had attained the political freedom years ago but the economic freedom is yet to be achieved.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for economic freedom one year ago. We will get the complete economic freedom 5-7 years. But people will get the feeling of economic change in three years,” he said.  

The Home Minister said several international financial rating agencies have termed India's economy as the fastest growing in the world.

“First thing we did after assuming power was to facilitate the poorest of the poor to open a bank account under the Prime Minister's Jan Dhan Yojana. Now, 99.7 per cent family is connected with banking system,” he said.  Singh said the Jan Dhan Yojana has been included in the Guniess Book of World Record.

The Hone Minister said among various decisions of the NDA government, one was that whatever amount is to be paid to a foreign military arms vendors, half of the amount that vendor has to invest in India.

“This will lead to setting up of more industries and creation of new jobs,” he added.

The Home Minister also lauded the contribution of the Chhattisgarh Police to fighting Maoists saying the first condition of development is security and the state police force has been doing commendable job.  Singh also termed Naya Raipur as the first well-organized city in the country.

Chief Minister Raman Singh said that with the completion of one year in office of Modi government, “a big change” has been witnessed in the country.

He said the state has been given additional funds and new development projects are coming up.  The Home Minister, who arrived here today, is on a two-day visit to Chhattisgarh.

He also chaired a high-level security review meeting with the Chief Minister, his ministerial colleagues, top civil and police officials besides paramilitary forces.

 The Home Minister was briefed various aspects of the anti-Naxal operations currently going on in Chhattisgarh.  During the tour, the Home Minister will also visit some of the Naxal-affected areas including Summa, Dantewada and Jagdalpur, to review security situation there.  

He will also interact with security personnel deployed in anti-Naxal operations.
