New Delhi, Oct 12 :  Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was today booed and a slipper hurled at her at a public function in North East Delhi by a group of India Against Corruption activists, protesting price rise and stiff hike in power tariff.

The slipper fell well short of Dikshit who had gone to Nand Nagri to inaugurate two renovated circle office of Food and Supplies department and she continued with the proceedings after the incident.

The group, which included women, showed black flags to Dikshit, shouted ‘Sheila Dikshit hai hai' and even squatted in in front of her convoy to protest rise in prices of essential commodities and significant hike in power tariff.  Police said they have detained seven persons but released them later.

“Elements who are trying to spread lawlessness and anarchy are behind such acts,” the Chief Minister said later.  The officials and Congress supporters tried to pacify the activists but failed.

Later, the protesters laid siege to Power Minister Haroon Yusuf's vehicle and police had to forcibly remove them.  Last week, India Against Corruption led by Arvind Kejriwal, who has announced his entry into politics recently, had launched a ‘bijli-paani satyagraha' to protest against “inflated” power and water bills and hike in
tariffs by restoring electricity connection to the household of a labourer which was disconnected for non-payment of bills.
