Chandigarh, Sep 22: INLD Secretary General and MLA, Ajay Singh Chautala, who is scheduled to file his nomination for the October 13 Hisar Lok Sabha bypoll, has been charged with violating the Model Code of Conduct.

Amardeep Jain, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Hisar today informed District Election Officer, Hisar about the alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct made by Chautala.

Jain has informed that Chautala, son of INLD President and former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, had organised a public meeting at Brahmin Dharamshala, Hisar on September 21 without seeking permission from the district administration.

This was in violation of the instructions of the Election Commission, an official release here said.

Jain said Ajay Chautala and his party workers also used red beacon light fitted vehicles without permission, which to was violation of the Model Code.

District Election Officer Amit Aggarwal has directed Ajay Chautala to reply by tomorrow, failing which action would be taken as per rules.

Commenting on the development, an INLD spokesman said, “Ajay Chautala is yet to file his nomination papers and therefore, cannot be held responsible for violating the Code, if at all, as a candidate.”

However, an Election Department official said that even an MLA was not authorised to use red beacon on his car when the Code was in force.

The bypoll has been necessitated after the death of Haryana Janhit Congress leader and former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal in June this year. PTI
