Haryana polls: Sushma Swaraj's sister Vandana Sharma among BJP candidates

New Delhi: BJP tonight announced the 47 remaining candidates for Haryana assembly elections who include Union Minister Sushma Swaraj's younger sister Vandana Sharma and two former Congress MPs and a former minister in B S Hooda government in the state.

The BJP's Central Election Committee met in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and cleared the names of 47 nominees. With this, the party completed the choice of all its 90 candidates for the October 15 Assembly elections in Haryana.

The party's CEC also declared four of its candidates for the assembly bypolls in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Gujarat.

The party's CEC met under the chairmanship of BJP chief Amit Shah and was attended by other members including Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Ananth Kumar and Thawarchand Gehlot and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan who was recently inducted into the panel.

Vandana Sharma has been fielded from Safidon constituency and former MPs Surender Barwala, who had recently quit INLD to join the party, is BJP candidate in Jind seat. Another former Congress MP Jitendra Malik has been fielded from Ganaur constituency.

Former State Minister Santosh Sarwan, who was in Congress and was part of Bhajan Lal government, has been fielded by BJP from Mulana (SC) seats.

BJP general secretary and CEC's secretary J P Nadda said the party has tried to give representation to all sections.

BJP leader and incharge of Haryana affairs Jagdish Mukhi said the party has fielded 15 women leaders, which is the highest by any party so far.

Party general secretary (organisation) Ram Lal, besides Shahnawaz Hussain and Haryana state leaders Rambilas Sharma, Anil Vig and Anil Jain and party's Haryana affairs in-charge Jagdish Mukhi and election in-charge in the state Kailash Vijayvargiya were also present.

Mukhi said as many as 17 SCs, 25 Jats and 16 OBCs (other than Jats) have also been fielded.

BJP has also given tickets to two Muslims, nine Brahmins, eight Punjabis and an equal number of Vaish candidates, he said, adding the party has also fielded two Sikhs.

The party has also fielded a retired IAS officer Abhay Singh Yadav from Nangal Chaudhary constituency.

Among the other women candidates declared today include Latika Sharma in Kalka seat, Rohita Revari from Panipat City, Santosh Danoda from Narwana (SC) seat, Swatantra Baala Choudhary from Fatehabad, Sunita Duggal from Ratia (SC) and Seema Gaibipur from Uklana (SC) constituency.

Other candidates declared include Aseem Goyal from Ambala City, Ghanshyam Das Arora from Yamunanagar, Subhash Sudha from Thanesar, Jai Bhagwan Sharma (DD) from Pehowa, Dharampal Sharma from Kalayat, Rao Surendra Singh from Kaithal, Randhir Golan from Pundri, Bhagwan Das Kabirpanthi from Nilokheri (SC), Karandev Kamboj from Indri, Harvindar Kalyan from Gharaunda, Shashikant Kaushik from Samalkha, Jai Singh Thekedar from Gohana, Baljeet Singh Malik (Dada) from Baroda, Sanjeev Chairman from Julana and Rajendra Deshujoda from Kalawali (SC).

Dev Kumar Sharma has been fielded from Dabwali, Pawan Beniwal from Ellenabad, Karan Singh Ranauliya from Adampur, J P Dalal from Loharu, Sukhvinder Shyoran from Badhra, Gunpal Singh Chairman from Tosham, Vishambhar Balmiki from Bawani Khera (SC), Manish Grover from Rohtak, Ramavtar Balmiki from Kalanaur (SC), Dariyav Singh Rajoura from Jhajjar (SC), Vikram Kadiyan from Beri, Vikram Thekedar from Kosli, Randheer Kaprivas from Rewari, Tejpal Tanwar from Sohna.

Sanjay Singh has been fielded from Nuh, Choudhary Alam Mundal will contest from Ferozepur Jhirka, Ekbal Jaildar from Punahana, Ram Ratan from Hodal (SC), Yashvir Dagar from Faridabad Nit seat and Vipul Goyal from Faridabad constituency, besides Rajesh Nagar from Tigaon seat.

In the bye-elections for the Kanubari (ST) in Arunachal Pradesh, BJP has fielded Rongnai Maham while for Hiyanglam seat in Manipur, the party has fielded from Dhanabir Singh.

For the Nagaland bypoll in Northern Angami-II (ST) seat, the party has fielded Visasolie Lhoungu while from Rajkot West seat in Gujarat, BJP has fielded Vijaybhai Rupani, a former MP.

BJP has already declared 43 candidates and has granted party tickets to the wife of veteran Congress leader Birender Singh who recently quit Congress and joined the saffron party. Among the candidates declared so far include seven women and 11 youths.

Prominent among the candidates announced in the first on September 9 are state BJP chief Rambilas Sharma from Mahendergarh, senior leader Anil Vij from Ambala Cant, former Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Birender Singh's wife Prem Lata Singh from Uchhana Kalan, BJP's Kisan Morcha chief O P Dhankar from Baadli and former Chandigarh Mayor Gian Chand Gupta from Panchkula.

Former Haryana ministers Jagdish Nehra in Rania, Krishna Gehlawat in Rai and Chattarpal Singh in Hansi were also named in the first list of candidates.

BJP's youth leader from Rohtak Capt Abhimanyu will contest from Narnaund and sitting MLA from Sonepat Kavita Jain has been renominated from the segment while senior BJP leader Santosh Yadav will fight from Ateli.
