Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Congress has decided to intensify its protest across the state on several issues, including the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for cotton and other agri-commodities, before the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, scheduled for January 11 and January 13 next year.

The decision was taken during the party's executive committee meeting here today presided by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and Gujarat in-charge Gurudas Kamat, according to a press release issued here.

Apart from Gujarat's local issues, Kamat urged leaders to take up national issues like communalism. He said that it is every Congress worker's duty to raise voices against communal forces and those advocating Godse's ideology, since Gujarat is Mahatma Gandhi's birth place, the release said.

Kamat claimed that the people of Gujarat are highly disappointed with the functioning of the BJP-led Gujarat state government and called for a state-wide stir against the Gujarat government, the release said.

Kamat will attend three gatherings during next two days to support Congress workers here.

"Tomorrow, he will be at Chotila to attend a large gathering of farmers at 10 am. Then he will go to Amreli during the afternoon for a similar event. On Wednesday, he will be at Jamnagar to attend a farmers' rally. The Congress will take up the issue of cotton MSP on a larger scale and stage protests across the state in the coming days," Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Manish Doshi said.

The Congress executive committee meet was attended by co-incharge of Gujarat Sajjansinh Verma, GPCC president Arjun Modhwadia, Leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly Shankersinh Vaghela, former LoP Shaktisinh Gohil, former Union minister Tushar Chaudhari, besides many other MLAs and leaders.
