Bangalore, July 23 :Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda today refuted Congress' claim that it had set up Muslim Minority Development Corporation and introduced four per cent reservation for them during Veerappa Moily's tenure as Chief Minister and said it was actually his brainchild.

Speaking to reporters here,he said Congress leaders should have restrained themselves from making this statement.

“Setting up of the corporation and introducing four per cent reservation was my brainchild as Chief Minister in 1994.  The then Governor (Kurshid Alam Khan) also referred to my contribution in setting up MMDC,” the JDS leader said.

He claimed former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had once admitted to not implementing four per cent reservation for Muslims in his state, thus alluding that the policy was his brainchild.

He also alleged there are no Muslims among Congress office-bearers and that the BJP government has not given a single job to Muslims in recent recruitments.

Congress legislators Roshan Baig, N A Haris and Naseer Ahmed had stated at a press meet here on July 16 that setting up of MMDC and four per cent reservation for Muslims was Moily's brainchild during his tenure as Chief Minister and not during  JDS rule.
