New Delhi, March 20: Finance Minister P. Chidambaram Wednesday said that the government was stable despite the withdrawal of support by the DMK, and it will continue to push for legislations.

Talking to media persons here, Chidambaram said the "government will continue to push for legislations" and expressed confidence that the the bills would find "enough support" in parliament.

He said the Lok Sabha had Tuesday passed the Criminal Law Amendment Bill and the cabinet had cleared the Food Security Bill.

"All the bills are necessary for the country, to take it forward," Chidambaram said.

Chidambaram, who was accompanied by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath and Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari, said the government's "hand was firmly on the wheel."

He asserted that each bill "stands on its own merit and will be passed on its own merit."

"We are a stable government. No one is questioning our stability. There is no instability," Chidambaram said.

The minister said the government would also continue to push for fiscal consolidation and bring down the fiscal deficit to 4.8 percent in 2013-14.
