New Delhi: BJP has condemned the lathicharge of its youth wing activists today by police in Lucknow as they were protesting against the deteriorating law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh and said that the Samajwadi Party government in the state does not deserve to be in office.

The protest by members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) outside the UP Assembly was aimed at “awakening” the Akhilesh Yadav government “out of its slumber” about the deteriorating law and order situation and poor availability of power in the state, BJP said.

“It is the frustration of the SP government (which prompted) it to use force on unarmed youth protesters. The brutality with which they were beaten up, the echo of this brutal act will be heard all over.

“The protest was aimed at awakening the government out of its slumber. There is a virtual ‘Jungle Raj' prevailing in the state with no action against violators of the law. It (SP government) has lost its right to rule,” claimed BJP's media cell in-charge, Shrikant Sharma.

There is no law and order in the state and people have to live in primitive conditions in the absence of power, Sharma added.

“Lathicharge and use of teargas against youth will act as the last nail in the coffin of the SP government.

It is running the government in an autocratic manner,” he said.  BJYM activists clashed with police as they attempted to gherao the UP Assembly this afternoon while it was in session, forcing the cops to lathicharge and use teargas shells. Some 50 BJYM activists were injured in the lathi-charge.
