New Delhi: Freedom of the press is important but it does not come free and entails responsibility as well, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said.
"When there was a detailed discussion (on media) in the Rajya Sabha, we had said that freedom of media is important but along with that we also said that press freedom does not come free. It entails responsibility. So it's freedom with responsibility," Javadekar said on Wednesday.
When asked about Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao's reported comments against media, Javadekar refused to comment saying he had not heard Rao's remarks.
"I have not heard what the Chief Minister of Telangana has said, so I will not comment on it," he said.
Rao had reportedly threatened to ‘bury' the media "ten feet under the earth" if they continued to ‘insult' the newly-carved out state.
