Gandhinagar, Mar 8: Former Gujarat Assembly Speaker Kundanlal Dholakia passed away at Bhuj in Kutch district late last night. He was 90.
Dholakia had served as the state's Assembly speaker from June 1975 to March 1977 and the from April 1977 to June 1980.He was involved with various social organisations and worked for rehabilitation of the victims of the earthquake in Kutch in 2001.
Expressing deep grief over Dholakia's death, Gujarat Governor Kamla said with his demise the state has lost a veteran leader and a social worker.His contribution in literature was also remarkable, she said in her condolence message.
Paying homage to the late Congress leader, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said that Dholakia, in his seven decades of public life, followed principles and moral values.
"His contribution in the development of Kutch and in the time of earthquake and other calamities will never be forgotten," he added. State Congress president Arjun Modhvadia said that with the demise of Dholakia, the state has lost a great social worker.
Gujarat Assembly Speaker Ganpat Vasava also condoled the death of the veteran leader said Dholakia's contribution in development of Kutchi literature was invaluable. PTI
