Road Construction
Narendra Modi government's commitment towards the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) is evident from its first year in office. In the Union Budget 2014-15. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley allocated Rs 14,389 crore for the scheme.
It gave significant boost to the road infrastructure in the country as well as helped in realizing the hidden potential.
1. Roads Construction
As compared to 25,262 kilometer (km) of roads constructed in UPA tenure 2013-2014, the year 2014-15, (NDA rule) witness significant rise of 46% in road infrastructure with 36,883 kilometers (km) roads built.
2. Habitations Connected
A rise of 68% is recorded in habitations connected through PMGSY. In 2013-2014, the figure was 6,542 while in 2014-15 it escalated to 10, 990.
3. Highway Projects Awarded
During UPA rule (2013-14) 3621 km of highway projects were awarded as compared to 7980 kms in the year 2014-15.
This year, the government plans to award Rs 3 lakh crore of road projects as it looks to more than double highway construction to 30 km per day.
